My MOPAR
Well, my mopar was just a bit different....a newer breed so to speak.
It was probably one of the first factory "tuner" type cars and no one really thought of it. It was a 1989 Dodge Shadow with the 2.5L Turbo. It was the 2 door coupe and was red with black trim. Those things were quite a package. 5 speed, 4 wheel disk brakes...mine did NOT have A/C or power windows. I bought it used at the dealer and the previous owner was one of the mechs that worked there. Well, after the test drive, I was sold and knew that there was a little more to that car than met the eye. Turned out that the 1st owner has adjusted the waste gate on the turbo, installed a MOPAR Performance cam, removed the muffler and installed a tuned pipe & a different computer module. The normal setting according to the gauge inside was about 7-8 lbs of boost. My car put out well above that. I believe it put out about 13-16 lbs. The gauge only went to 15 and they weren't the most accurate. On the street, it was a beast. Sounded like a bumble-bee on steroids. One night out cruising, a Mustang GT pulled up and the guy wanted to race....well being young and stupid, I eagerly obliged. Light turned green and the Dodge stayed in front to the next light. Did it again from a roll of about 20-30 and the Stang got the jump, but the little Dodge stayed right on the rear quater panel. We pulled into a parking lot and that guy was furious. Turned out he had just dropped a bunch of $$$ into a new intake, injectors, computer, and exhaust. Only thing was that the Stang was an auto. Not sure how good of a driver he was, but he did stay that is car was real sluggish off the line. I told him to upgrade his cam next and the car should handily take the Dodge. So, I guess you could say that I was 'buzzing' around WAY before it got popular with the 'fart cans' now a days......only I was doing it with a DOMESTIC that would still probably toast most of the rice out there now! Well, that was my only Mopar, and I have thought seriously about attempting to get others....we will see....... |

Re: My MOPAR
Back in '87 Wendy had a '65 Mustang. It overheated on the freeway and blew a head gasket. Well, Chris was one and we felt it would be better to have a new car for her to cart the kids around in.
Bought a '87 Daytona Pacifica Turbo. HOT little Dodge/Mitsubishi four-cylinder. She got her first "excessive show of acceleration" ticket within 2 weeks. Unfortunately it was totalled less than a year later -- Smacked on the freeway. Four pax and one being a 2 year old, walked away without a scratch. I'd love to have another of those.

Re: My MOPAR
I've heard of a few that were made to be quite quick. That would be a cool one to have on hand...
